Producer Rafael Dias Pereira has coffee farming in the blood. His grandfather, Isidro Pereira, was one of the pioneers involved during two defining moments of coffee growing in Carmo de Minas: the planting of Bourbon crops, and the use of the pulped natural processing method. After more than ten years running a successful horse-breeding ranch, Rafael decided to expand into specialty coffee growing himself. He purchased a small property near to his brother, mother, aunt and uncle’s coffee farms.

Fazenda Capim Seco's first harvest came in 2007 and the coffee achieved speciality rating, keeping up with the Pereira family tradition of producing fine beans. Rafael's beans are processed at Fazenda Irmãs Pereira, his mother and aunt’s farm. There he’s able to dry the beans in African beds or patios and process both natural and pulped naturals, as well as innovative methods like Sweet Shower, Black Honey and Double-pass.
