Single origin · Rwanda

Grown in the Virunga highlands

Enjoy the bright, fragrant flavour of Birchall Virunga Earl Grey Tea, a premium single-origin black tea grown in Rwanda and blended with natural bergamot flavour for a distinctive citrus taste with delicate floral notes.

Supplied in a box of 80 plant-based Prism™ tea bags, this elegant Earl Grey combines carefully selected black tea with bergamot and colourful cornflowers to create a beautifully aromatic and refreshing cup.

The tea is grown close to Rwanda's border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Virunga National Park. Here, high altitude, relatively cool temperatures, high rainfall and rich volcanic soils provide excellent growing conditions. The tea bushes grow slowly, allowing greater flavour to develop before the leaves are individually hand-picked.

Enjoy Birchall Virunga Earl Grey on its own, with a slice of lemon or with a splash of milk – perfect for afternoon tea or an uplifting everyday brew.

Premium Rwandan Earl Grey Tea

The distinctive character of Birchall Virunga Earl Grey starts at its source.

The black tea is grown in Rwanda, close to Virunga National Park, where altitude, rainfall and rich volcanic soils create excellent conditions for growing high-quality tea. The cooler temperatures at altitude mean the tea bushes grow more slowly, allowing the leaves to develop greater flavour before they are carefully hand-picked.

The selected black tea is then blended with natural bergamot flavour and cornflowers, creating a fragrant Earl Grey with refreshing citrus character and delicate spicy floral notes.

Sustainable & Plant-Based Tea Bags

Birchall Virunga Earl Grey is fully Rainforest Alliance Certified and produced at Birchall's 100% solar-powered tea factory in Wiltshire. Birchall also states that all of its products are certified Carbon Neutral.

Each Prism™ tea bag is made from SoilOn™, a plant-based PLA mesh derived from renewable resources. The spacious Prism™ shape gives the tea leaves plenty of room to move and infuse, helping to release their full flavour and aroma into your cup.

The Prism™ tea bags are made from plant-based material and are industrially compostable. They are not designed for typical home composting, as they require the conditions found in commercial composting facilities to break down effectively. Some local authorities accept industrially compostable tea bags as part of their food waste collections, so please check your local council's guidance before disposal.

The outer carton is made from responsibly sourced FSC®-certified board and can be recycled through household paper recycling collections.
